Volunteers will be matched with one or more service users to undertake weekly calls and visits, take them out for a short walk each week while having a friendly chat and any other support according to individual need and agreed by the volunteer/activities coordinator. The Volunteer must not take on any additional responsibilities other than identified and approved by the volunteer/activities coordinator. Volunteers must inform PGS staff if any issues arise.
That you will:
• Undertake training as required and use the training in your role especially with regard to planning safe routes.
• Familiarise themselves and comply with the relevant policies and procedures such as Privacy, Data Protection, Health and Safety, Lone Working, Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and our Professional Practice and Boundaries policies.
• Be aware of services provided by PGS so that you can provide information to service users, when required.
• Be aware of other local services and activities that may be of interest to service users.
• Complete and return necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
• Report any issues to the Volunteer/Activities Coordinator.
• Be reliable and punctual and maintain a positive and friendly attitude when representing PGS
• Complete the DBS Certificate process and sign up for the update service.
• Always wear your ID Badge when volunteering.
• Inform us if there are any issues that will affect your visits.
• Always respect service users’ confidentiality.
• If you are a car driver, you must inform your car insurer and make sure your policy covers you while you are volunteering. You will be required to complete and return a Drivers Declaration form to us.
• Offer legal advice, debt advice, financial advice or counselling.
• Become the Power of Attorney for the service user or Executor of their Will.
• Accept Gifts except in accordance with our Gifts Policy.
• Share confidential information.
• Undertake or participate in any activity that puts you or service users at risk.
• Undertake or participate in any activity that causes reputational damage to the organisation.
• Visit service users without the knowledge of the volunteer/activity coordinator or director, in their absence.
Volunteers must be over 18.
Good communication skills, a pleasant attitude, empathy and patience.
Commitment, reliable, honest and trustworthy.
Clean driving licence and appropriate insurance is required if personal transport is necessary for the role.
A clear DBS Certificate is required for this role and will be obtained by us with your permission.
Up to 4 hours for activity groups/meetings (approximately 1 hour per week for each service user supported).
Service users’ home. Supported housing accommodation. Day Centres. Premises where social club/meetings are held.
Timely payment of your agreed out of pocket expenses.
Support from staff, especially your Manager.
Training to help you carry out your role.
Other training opportunities when available – e.g., First Aid, courses to aid development.
Regular communication
Invitation to social outings and events when they occur.
That any personal information you have supplied to PGS will be stored according to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Public Liability and Employers Liability Insurance cover whilst carrying out volunteering activities on our behalf, subject to the Insurer’s Terms and Conditions.
Mandatory induction session (approx. 1.5 hours)
Mandatory training specific to your role.
Opportunity to complete other non-mandatory training when available e.g., Understanding Dementia, First Aid, Health & Social Care and other relevant courses etc.
Volunteer Coordinator/Manager will be available by phone and email. Supervisions will be on an individual basis and must take place at least twice a year. Meetings will take place as required. You will also have the support of the Volunteering Team and the rest of the PGS staff across all services can offer their support for specific enquiries. You are valuable to us all at PGS and will be offered help and treated with the respect you deserve.
